City of Coral Springs  www.coralsprings.org

The City of Coral Springs is where we are making a community impact.  The Parks and Recreation Department is our primary partner assisting with implementing intergenerational activities and recruiting seniors and youth to participate in the initiative.   We have solid relationships with the Mayor and City Commission, all of whom are very excited to see our coalitions form and grow.

                               United Way www.unitedwaybroward.org

We are proud to be a United Way of Broward County 2009-10 funded Community Impact Partner. In addition to the funding, they have provided us with a very clear objective regarding the impact in the community that we are collectively looking to make. The United Way of Broward County provides funding for the Building Generations initiative because it is a focused, collaborative and sustainable effort that will have a lasting community impact.

                                   Caresource www.eldercareconnect.org

Caresource provides money management services to coalition members in need by working with them through the FLIP program. There are three overarching goals of the FLIP program: To assist with daily money management skills, to provide benefits counseling and application assistance to clients who may be confused or overwhelmed by the healthcare and/or financial system and to serve as the income payee when clients are at risk for exploitation, eviction, bankruptcy or homelessness.

                           FLIPANY www.flipany.org

FLIPANY provides services to coalition members in the form of their Eating Right and Saving Smart, Spending Smart classes. Eating Right teaches participants to shop sensibly for and easily prepare healthy, tasty meals on a limited budget. Each class partners collaborative food preparation with practical nutrition information and food budgeting strategies. Participants enjoy the meal they have prepared and leave with a bag of groceries to take and practice the recipes at home. This class meets once a week for two hours for six weeks.

The Saving Smart, Spending Smart class builds on the budget-friendly information learned in the Eating Right class and shares the knowledge of household budgeting and money management. Through class discussion and interactive activities, participants increase their understanding of basic financial concepts and learn how to apply them to their personal financial situation.

                                   Senior Volunteer Services

                                   www.seniorvolunteerservices.org

Senior Volunteer Services participation yields a double advantage both to the communities and the individuals who benefit from the volunteer services and to the volunteers themselves who realize proven health benefits through social interaction, ongoing engagement, opportunities to contribute and a renewed sense of purpose and accomplishment. Through this collaboration, Senior Volunteer Services offers their Foster Grandparents program to children from low-income families as well as their Senior Companion Program. Seniors volunteer their time each week in schools, after school programs, child care centers, hospitals, and other locations. They tutor and mentor children one-on-one to develop basic learning skills, provide emotional support, and help with developmental and motor skills.

                          MDEI  www.mdeinc.org

St. Andrews Towers

As Coral Springs’ only affordable senior housing provider, St. Andrew Towers is a major collaborative partner with regard to recruiting seniors to participate in the various programs and services and facilitating the involvement of seniors in the formation of the neighborhood coalition.

                                   Broward County  www.broward.org

Broward County partners with the initiative in several ways.  Building Generations staff is housed at the NorthWest Family Success Center located in the Town Center section of Coral Springs across the street from Mullins Park. Family Success Centers are a one-stop source of social services information, referrals and services to assist individuals and families in setting goals, learning skills, and accessing the services they need to build a stronger, healthier and self-sufficient family unit. This location allows the Building Generations staff to work closely with other agencies housed at the center.   Additionally, the Elderly and Veterans Affairs Division assists with the outreach and recruitment of seniors into the coalition and offers various programs and services.

                                          Broward County Health Department

                                         ARC Broward www.arcbroward.com

ARC Broward serves as the collaborative agent for the Building Generations initiative.  We are fortunate to have financial support from the United Way of Broward County and we have joined with other local not for profit agencies to offer services and supports as desired by the coalition members. The Building Generations initiative would not be possible without the support of these partner agencies:
